Medical Missions – Dominican Republic

Since the late 1990s, our Association has been dedicated to offering vital medical services in the Dominican Republic through biannual missions. Our team of volunteer doctors include specialists in various fields such as cardiology, pediatric neurology, urology, oncology, gastroenterology, pediatrics, infectious diseases, gynecology, anesthesiology, dentistry, and internal medicine. Thanks to generous donations, we also provide patients with essential medications.

Over a three-day weekend, these missions treat over 1,200 patients, resulting in over 2,000 patient visits and delivering approximately $125,000 worth of medications.

These missions not only deliver critical healthcare services but also exemplify our ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable populations.

These missions have been historically organized by Drs. Jorge Echenique and José Joaquín Centurion, both Knights of our Association, working in collaboration with the Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC).

ILAC, was founded by a group of Cuban Jesuits at Regis in Toronto in 1972. Fr. Ernesto Travieso, S.J. and Fr. Narciso Sanchez-Medio, S.J. then brought the program to Creighton University in 1976. The purpose was to help other Jesuit, diocesan priests, and members of other religious communities from North America to get to know and understand the people and challenges of Latin America.

Since that time, ILAC has evolved in facilitating a group of programs, which continue to bridge the gap between the North Americans and the Dominicans.
